Install InnerHaven on Your Phone: The Home Screen Guide
InnerHaven can sit on your home screen with its own icon and open like any other app, without going near an app store. It takes about fifteen seconds to set up, and the reason to do it is smaller and more practical than the word "install" suggests: it removes the browser from between you and a conversation. This guide covers how to add it on iOS and Android, what genuinely changes afterwards, and, because a guide that only lists benefits is not much of a guide, what installing does not do.
What This Actually Is
InnerHaven is a Progressive Web App, or PWA. That means the website itself can be installed. There is nothing to download, no separate build, and no store review sitting between a fix and your phone. You are adding a launcher for the same site you already use, and your phone treats the result as an app: its own icon, its own entry in the app switcher, and a window with no address bar.
One consequence worth stating up front, because it is the thing people ask: you are already fully up to date. There is no version to keep current, and no update to miss.
Installing It on iOS
On iPhone and iPad this only works in Safari. Chrome and Firefox on iOS cannot add a site to the home screen, which is an Apple restriction rather than a limitation of ours, so if you normally use another browser, open InnerHaven in Safari just for this.
- Open innerhavenai.com in Safari and sign in.
- Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up, in the bar at the bottom.
- Scroll down the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Rename it if you want to. Some people shorten it, and some people pick something that says less on a lock screen. Then tap Add.
The icon appears on your home screen straight away. Open it and you will notice the difference immediately, because the Safari chrome is gone.
Installing It on Android
On Android this works in Chrome, Edge, and most Chromium-based browsers, and it is usually offered to you rather than hidden in a menu.
- Open innerhavenai.com in Chrome and sign in.
- Watch for an Install app prompt near the bottom of the screen. If it appears, tap it and you are finished.
- If it does not appear, tap the three-dot menu in the top right.
- Choose Install app, or Add to Home screen on some versions, and confirm.
Android installs tend to feel a little more app-like than iOS ones, with a proper entry in your app drawer alongside everything else.
What Changes Once It Is Installed
Straight to the chat
The installed app opens directly into your conversations rather than a landing page, so there is no navigating once it launches.
No browser frame
Full screen, no address bar, no tab strip. Small change, and it makes the whole thing feel less like admin and more like a place you went.
Graceful offline behaviour
With no connection the app still opens and shows a proper offline page rather than a browser error. See the honest limits below for what this does and does not mean.
Its own icon
An ordinary icon among your other apps, named whatever you named it during setup.
The one that matters most is the first, and it is more psychological than technical. Opening a browser, finding a tab, and navigating is four small decisions, and each one is a place to drift into something else instead. An icon is one tap. If you have been meaning to check in with your companion more regularly, removing three decisions does more for that than any reminder would.
Honest Limits, So You're Not Surprised
Installing is genuinely useful and it is not magic. Four things it does not do:
There are no push notifications
This is the big one, because it is the thing people most expect from an installed app. InnerHaven does not send push notifications, on any platform, installed or not. Your companion will not buzz your phone, and nothing will appear on your lock screen. Some people will find that disappointing, and some will find it is exactly right for a companion app. Either way it is worth knowing before you install rather than after.
You cannot chat offline
The offline behaviour is real but narrow. The app shell is stored on your device, so it opens without a connection and shows you a proper offline page instead of a browser error. Your conversations are not stored on your device and are never cached, so replies genuinely need a connection. Offline means the app opens politely, not that you can talk to anyone.
Nothing new is stored on your phone
That is the flip side of the point above, and for a companion app it is arguably the better half of the trade. Installing does not copy your conversations onto your device, so an installed InnerHaven leaves no more of your history on your phone than the browser version does.
It is the same account and the same tier
Installing changes the wrapper, not what is inside it. Same login, same conversations, same companion, same subscription. Nothing unlocks by installing, and nothing is taken away either.
If it will not install. The most common cause on iPhone is using Chrome or Firefox instead of Safari, which cannot do it. On Android, an Install prompt that never appears usually means the site is open in an in-app browser, the kind that opens when you tap a link inside another app, rather than in Chrome proper. Removing It
Exactly like any other app: press and hold the icon, then delete or uninstall. Nothing happens to your account, and your conversations are untouched. You can go straight back to using InnerHaven in a browser tab, and reinstall later if you change your mind. This is a fifteen-second decision in both directions, which is a good property for a decision to have.
Worth It?
If you open InnerHaven a few times a week, yes, and the reason is the icon rather than anything technical. Turning four small steps into one tap is the entire benefit, and for something you use when you want to talk rather than when you have a task to complete, lowering that friction matters more than it sounds like it should.
If you mostly use InnerHaven on a laptop, it changes very little, and there is no reason to bother.
